A second destination costs $5 less: the returning traveller discount

A Phrazl trip pack is $9.99 once, and the returning traveller discount is built to take $5 off the next destination you buy, so a second country is priced at $4.99. Phrazl is not taking payments yet, so what follows is how that discount is built to behave at checkout: read from the packs already on your account, with no code to paste.

How a second destination is priced $5 less

A trip pack is $9.99 once. The returning traveller discount is built to take $5 off your next destination, so the second pack is priced at $4.99 where the first was $9.99.

What the second pack is, and what it costs

A trip pack is one Stripe purchase covering a single destination with up to three of the five scenarios, restaurant, transport, hotel, emergency and shopping, at 50 phrases per scenario, up to 150 phrases in all. The discount is built into that same purchase flow rather than mailed out as an offer. Once a paid pack sits on your account, the next pack's checkout is built to show the $9.99 price struck through beside $4.99, and to name the returning traveller discount as the line that made the difference. There is nothing to claim and no date to beat while you decide which three scenarios the new place actually needs.

Being straight about where this stands: Phrazl has not opened payments, so nobody has yet bought a second pack at $4.99. What is settled is the pricing and the mechanic. The discount keys off the packs already recorded against your account, not off a promotion you have to catch in time.

The one-time versus subscription argument is made in full on the one-time checkout page. This page is narrower: what the second country is priced at, and what the lower number buys.

The reasoning is plain. No badge is involved and nothing is awarded for keeping a streak alive. The second destination costs less because the expensive part, deciding which phrases a traveller at that destination needs first and in what order, was paid for the first time round. What is left is a new place, a new departure date, and three scenarios to pick again.

How the discount is built to work

  1. Your first trip pack, $9.99 once

One Stripe purchase is built to unlock one destination, up to three of the five scenarios, and 50 phrases per scenario, ordered by how much of the trip they cover.

  2. The months between the two trips

Nothing renews while you are away or after you land. The purchase record stays attached to your account, and that record is what separates a returning traveller from a first-time buyer.

  3. Setting up the next destination

The same three steps as the first time: destination, then departure date, then up to three scenarios. The review schedule is calculated against the new departure date, so the second language is not practised on the first trip's timetable.

  4. The next pack, $5 off at $4.99

Checkout is built to apply the returning traveller discount to a second destination purchase and to show both numbers, the $9.99 base and the $4.99 you would pay. What it unlocks is the full pack, not a trimmed one.

  5. The packs you own, on your account screen

The account screen lists the trip packs attached to your account, and that list is where the discount is read from. A second purchase is not built to ask you to prove something you have already bought.

What the discounted pack contains

A cheaper pack, not a smaller one

Up to 150 phrases across three scenarios, with all three learning modes: flashcard, listen and repeat, and fill in the blank. Audio on every phrase, spoken by a synthesised voice at speed or slowed down to copy, with a written pronunciation guide beside it.

The discount lives in the purchase, not in a promotion

It is designed to be applied at checkout on a second destination purchase, read from the packs already on your account, so there is nothing to qualify for, paste in or remember before a date.

Nothing charges between the two trips

The trip pack is $9.99 once and the full bundle is $19.99 once. Two destinations bought a year apart come to $14.98 in total, and the months in between cost nothing at all.

The new language gets its own deadline

Each trip carries its own destination and departure date, and the spaced repetition schedule compresses as that date approaches, so what is due tomorrow is set by the flight you have actually booked.

The scenarios get chosen again for the new place

The second destination starts from the same scenario selector, so a city trip built around transport and restaurant does not force the same three picks on a beach fortnight where shopping and hotel matter more.

What the discount is read from

You sign in with an email address and a password, and the packs you own hang off that account. The discount is read from the purchase record kept against it: the Stripe checkout session and payment intent ids, the amount and the status for each trip pack. That same record is what re-locks a pack if Stripe refunds the payment. It sits in a managed Postgres database on Amazon Web Services, alongside your trips, their departure dates and your review history per phrase.

Two more things worth knowing while you count the cost of the next country.

  • Progress is one bar, labelled as curriculum coverage completed. It reports how much of the set you have worked through, not a prediction about how a conversation will go. The second trip reports the same single bar as the first, with no XP and no streak to protect while you pack.
  • The emergency scenario is practice. Those phrases are for general communication practice only and are not a substitute for contacting local emergency services or a qualified interpreter. The scenario selection screen says so before you pick it, and the terms say the same.

If you want the three plans side by side rather than the second-destination case, the pricing page has them. The free 20 phrases page covers what you can hear before paying anything, the purchase history page shows where owned packs are listed, the phrase set page explains how 50 phrases per scenario get ordered, the readiness page explains the single bar, and the account and data page sets out what is stored and how to remove it.

Questions

How much does a second destination cost?

A trip pack is $9.99 once, and the returning traveller discount is built to take $5 off your next destination, so the second pack is priced at $4.99.

Do I need a discount code?

No. The discount is built to be applied at checkout on a second destination purchase, read from the packs already on your account, so there is nothing to paste in and nothing to request first.

Can I buy a second pack today?

Not yet. Phrazl is pre-launch and payments are not open, so no pack has been sold at $9.99 or $4.99. The prices and the discount are set, and the waitlist is where you hear when checkout opens.

Is there a subscription behind this?

No. Both paid plans are one-time Stripe purchases: the trip pack at $9.99 once and the full bundle at $19.99 once. Nothing renews between trips.

Does the discounted pack contain less than the first one?

No. It is built the same way: one destination, up to three of the five scenarios, 50 phrases per scenario ordered by trip relevance, up to 150 in total, with all three learning modes and a review schedule that compresses towards your departure date.

Can I hear a second language before paying for it?

Yes. The free preview covers the first 20 phrases of a trip with audio and the departure countdown, with one trip set up. For the next destination the route is the trip pack with the $5 returning traveller discount.

What if I have three or more trips coming?

Do the comparison. The discount is $5 off your next destination, while the full bundle is $19.99 once and covers all 10 languages, all five scenarios and 2,500 phrases, with new trips set up any time and no further purchase.

Where will I see the packs I already own?

On the account screen, which lists the trip packs attached to your account. That same purchase record is what the next checkout reads to apply the returning traveller discount.
