Why Phrazl exists and who is behind it.

About

Made for the fortnight before the flight

Phrazl started from a specific failure: arriving somewhere with three weeks of app practice behind you and still no way to ask for a table, because the curriculum was ordering lessons by pedagogy and you were ordering your life by a departure date. The gap it is built into is narrow and easy to describe. Free apps want a habit, private tutors cost fifty dollars an hour and up, and almost nothing between those two lets you say where you are going, when you leave, and which three situations you care about. So that is what Phrazl asks, and nothing else. The tone is meant to match the customer: you have already abandoned one app that treated you like someone who could not be trusted with a real sentence, and there is no reason to repeat it. Right now the product is in build and the site is a waitlist. Nobody has used it in a foreign restaurant yet, and until they have, there is nothing to boast about, only a plan and a phrase set to get right.

The problem

You did not quit because you lacked discipline

You quit because the app wanted a habit and you had a flight. Mainstream language apps are built around engagement loops, so family vocabulary and basic grammar arrive long before the train station, the restaurant table, or the pharmacy counter, and prerequisite lessons sit between you and the sentences your trip actually needs. If you are going somewhere in one to six months, you do not need a lifelong practice. You need a short, specific set of phrases you can say out loud, in an order that respects how many days are left.
