How it works

From sign-up to the first result

  1. Say where and when

Pick the destination and set the departure date. Those two answers decide which language you get and how much time the schedule has to work with.

  2. Pick up to three scenarios

Restaurant, transport, hotel, emergency, or shopping. Choosing three keeps the set small enough to finish, which matters more than covering everything badly.

  3. Get the phrase set in relevance order

Phrases are pre-curated for your language and scenario pairing and ordered by trip-relevance rank, so the sentence you will use at the counter is not sitting behind a grammar drill.

  4. Work it in three modes

Flashcards, listen and repeat with audio playback, and fill in the blank. Use the listening mode with your mouth moving, not just your eyes.

  5. Watch coverage, not a streak

One bar shows how much of the curriculum you have covered, and the spaced repetition intervals compress as your departure date approaches.

Phrazl is not open yet, so this is what it is being built to do. Nothing a card names is a promise: the pages this site publishes are what it covers today.

Three answers, then phrases

Destination selector, departure date picker, and up to three scenarios from restaurant, transport, hotel, emergency, and shopping. That is the whole setup, and there are no prerequisite lessons waiting behind it.

Ranked for the trip, not the textbook

Phrase sets are pre-curated per language and scenario and ordered by trip-relevance rank, covering ten languages: Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Thai, Greek, and Dutch.

Who it is for

Built for the people who feel the problem

Nothing a card names is a promise: the pages under Who it is for are who it covers today.

Four weeks out and nothing learned

The trip you already paid for

The date is fixed, so the schedule works backwards from it, compressing review intervals as the departure gets closer instead of pacing you for a year you do not have.

Former Duolingo user

Starting without starting at hello

There are no prerequisite lessons between the setup screen and your phrase set, so the restaurant sentences are not locked behind vocabulary you will never say abroad.

Work trip with one dinner that matters

The table where your host orders

Pick the restaurant scenario on its own and keep the set small. Fewer phrases worked out loud in three modes beats a broad list you half recognise.

A new country most years

Next destination, second pack

Each trip is its own one-time purchase, your account lists the packs you own, and a returning-traveller discount is applied at checkout on the second destination.
