Delete your account
The control that deletes your Phrazl account sits on your account screen, behind a confirmation that asks you to type your email address. This article says where it is, what it removes, and what stays behind once it has run.
What this article helps with
You want the account gone: the email address, the trips, the review history, the record of what you bought. Perhaps the trip has happened and you have no next one booked, perhaps you want a clean slate before setting a new destination.
Account deletion is one control on your account screen, and it is separate from deleting a single trip. If you only want one trip and its review history to go, that is a Delete trip control on that trip's edit screen, and your account stays. If you want everything, read on.
Delete the account
You sign in with your email address and password. The delete control lives behind sign-in, so a signed-out person cannot delete your account for you.
- Open your account screen
The account screen is where your trips, what you own and the account controls sit. Account deletion and the data download are both on it.
- Download your data first, if you want it
The same screen downloads a JSON file of everything held about you. Take it before you delete, not after.
- Type your email address to confirm
The confirmation asks for the email address on the account. It is deliberately a little bit of friction, because the next step is not a maybe.
- Confirm, and it goes in one transaction
The account, your trips, your review history per phrase, your purchase records, any support requests you sent from the account screen and any paywall answer you gave all go together.
What is kept, and why
Deletion is built to leave none of your rows behind, but a few things are worth naming plainly.
- Stripe's own payment records. Stripe takes the card payments for trip packs and retains its own records of them as required by law. Phrazl's copy of the purchase record goes with your account; Stripe's does not.
- A trip set up at /try, which has its own clock. A trip built without an account holds its destination, departure date, scenarios and the grades on its five sample cards under a random token in a cookie, with no name or email attached. Sign up and that trip and its grades move onto your account, and then they go with the account when you delete it. Leave it unclaimed and it is deleted, cookie and all, after 7 days.
- Counts with nothing attached to them. Separately from the trip itself, three milestones are recorded for a /try trip: that it was set up, that its five cards were finished, and that it was claimed at sign-up. Each is a step name and a random id, with no name, email, destination or date held alongside, which is why those counts stay once the trip they name is gone.
- Server logs. Logs roll off within 30 days. Usage events, which are counted as totals in the product's own database, are deleted after 16 weeks.
If something did not work
If the confirmation will not accept your email address, check you are typing the address the account was created with, the one you sign in with.
If the screen sits on "Deleting" and nothing happens, a dropped connection is the usual cause. Reload the page, open the account screen again, and check whether the account is still there before you try a second time.
If you are still signed in afterwards, or anything about a purchase looks wrong, email support@phrazl.com and say which email address the account used. Every message to that address lands in the support desk.
Questions
Do I have to email support to delete my account?
No. The control is on your account screen, behind a confirmation that asks you to type your email address. Email support@phrazl.com only if the screen does not do what it says.
Can I delete one trip instead of the whole account?
Yes. A single trip and its review history are deleted from that trip's edit screen, and the account itself stays, along with your other trips.
What happens to a trip pack I paid for?
The purchase record Phrazl holds, the Stripe checkout session and payment intent ids, the amount and the status, goes in the same transaction as the account. Stripe retains its own payment records as required by law. If there is a payment problem to sort out, raise it by email before you delete.
Can I get a copy of my data before deleting?
Yes. The account screen downloads a JSON file of everything held about you. Do that first, because the download lives on the screen you are about to remove.
Does my review history go too?
Yes. Your review history per phrase, the result, the interval and the next review time for each one, is part of what is deleted with the account, which means the departure-calibrated schedule built from it goes with it.
What if I only want a different destination, not a deletion?
Then you do not need this screen at all. A trip's destination, departure date and scenarios are set in the three-step trip setup, and the help article on setting up a trip covers that.
