Count every step from trip setup to paid pack
Phrazl counts every step you take from setting up a trip to owning a paid pack: the setup itself, the end of the free 20, a listen walk, the paywall, the start of checkout, the purchase. Here is that sequence from your side, what sits in each record, and how to read it back or clear it.
What this article covers
Between the moment you pick a destination and the moment a pack unlocks, Phrazl writes one short milestone per trip for each step you reach. There is no screen in the app that shows you a funnel chart, so this article is the map: it names each milestone in order, says what the record holds, and points at the one screen where you can download or delete the lot.
Read it if you want to know what is kept while you are deciding whether to pay, if you answered the question on the paywall and wondered where that answer went, or if you want everything held about you off the account.
The steps, in the order you walk them
- Set up the trip
Three steps: destination, departure date, then up to three scenarios from restaurant, transport, hotel, emergency and shopping. Phrazl stores the trip itself, destination, departure date and scenarios, because that is what selects your phrase set and calibrates the schedule, and writes one milestone saying a trip was set up.
- Work through the free 20
The free preview opens the first 20 phrases of your trip, with audio on every one. When you finish them, a second milestone records that the free 20 is done. Your grades are already held separately as review history, result, interval and next review time, which is what the schedule reads.
- Take a listen walk, if you want one
The hands-free listen screen writes a milestone when a walk starts and another when it finishes, each marked free or paid. It is optional, and skipping it changes nothing else in the sequence.
- Meet the paywall
When the locked set is shown, Phrazl records that the paywall was seen. The same screen asks, once per trip, what stopped you: one tappable reason and an optional short note. Answering is voluntary and the answer is kept so the price, the languages offered and the audio can be fixed where they are the reason.
- Start checkout
Trip pack is £6.99 once for one destination and up to three of the five scenarios. Full bundle is £16.99 once for all ten languages and all five scenarios. Stripe takes the card and collects your billing address to work out UK VAT, and purchases are open to customers in the United Kingdom for now. A milestone records that checkout was started.
- Buy the pack
The last milestone records the purchase. Alongside it sits the purchase record itself: the Stripe checkout session and payment intent ids, the amount and the status for that trip pack. Phrazl reads it to unlock what you bought, to apply the £3 off your next destination so the next pack is £3.99, and to re-lock a pack if Stripe refunds the payment.
- Read it back, or clear it
Your account screen downloads a JSON file of everything held about you, including these milestones, your trips, your review history, purchase records, support requests and any paywall answer. The same screen deletes the whole account once you type your email to confirm, in one transaction. A single trip and its review history go from that trip's edit screen.
If you started before making an account
A trip built at /try, before any account exists, is held under a random token in a cookie: destination, date, scenarios and your grades on its five sample cards, with no name and no email. Its milestones are thinner still, a step name and a random id only, recording that the trip was set up, that the five cards were finished and that it was claimed at sign-up.
Sign up or sign in and that guest trip and its grades move onto your account, and the sequence above carries on from trip setup. Leave it unclaimed and it is deleted, cookie and all, after seven days.
What to do next, or if something looks wrong
If a purchase went through and the pack did not unlock, send a support request from your account screen or email support@phrazl.com, and quote the destination and the date you bought. Every message there lands in the support desk.
If you want the sequence to stop at your end, delete the trip from its edit screen or delete the account outright from the account screen. Usage events are deleted after 16 weeks whether you touch anything or not, and server logs roll off within 30 days.
For the steps either side of this one, there are separate articles on setting up a trip, on how your phrase set is ordered, and on how the review schedule compresses as your departure gets closer.
Questions
Do I have to answer the question on the paywall?
No. It is one tap on a chosen reason, with an optional short note, offered at most once per trip. Skip it and the paywall behaves exactly the same.
Is my name attached to these milestones?
Milestones for a trip on your account are attached to that account and trip, so they come out in your data download and go when you delete the account. Milestones for a /try trip carry only a step name and a random id, with no name, email, destination or date held against them.
How long are the records kept?
Usage events are deleted after 16 weeks. Your trips, review history, purchase records, support requests and paywall answer are kept while the account exists and removed when it is deleted. Server logs roll off within 30 days. Stripe keeps its own payment records as the law requires.
Can I see a chart of my own funnel in the app?
No. The page that lists these counts is operator-only and limited to studio email addresses, and it reads totals rather than individuals. What you can see is your own data, in the JSON file the account screen downloads.
Does buying a pack change what is recorded?
It adds the purchase milestone and a purchase record holding the Stripe session and payment intent ids, the amount and the status for that pack. That record is what unlocks your phrases, applies the £3 returning traveller discount on your next destination, and re-locks the pack if Stripe refunds you.
What if I never reach the paid pack?
Then the sequence simply stops where you stopped. The free preview keeps the first 20 phrases of one trip set up, with audio and the departure countdown, and nothing in the record changes until you come back.
