Export your data

You can export everything Phrazl holds about you as a single JSON file, downloaded from your account screen. This article shows where that download sits, what the file contains, and what it does not cover.

When you need this

Three moments send people here. You are about to delete your account and want a copy of your trips and review history first. You want to see exactly what is stored about you before you buy a pack. Or you want the record of a purchase in writing.

All three are the same job: one download, from your account screen, producing one JSON file of everything held about you. You do not need to ask anyone, and you do not need to wait for a reply.

You will need to be signed in. Phrazl signs you in with an email address and a password, so have those to hand.

Download the file

  1. Sign in

Sign in with your email address and password. The export is tied to the account, so it has to come from the account that holds the trips you want.

  2. Open your account screen

Go to your account screen. This is the same screen that carries account deletion, so read before you tap.

  3. Download the JSON file

Use the download on that screen. It produces a JSON file of everything Phrazl holds about you, built from your account at the moment you ask for it.

  4. Open it and check it

JSON is plain text. Any text editor will open it, and most browsers will display it readably if you open the file directly. Scan it for your trips, your review history and your purchase records.

  5. Keep the copy somewhere you will find it

Nothing in Phrazl reads the file back in. Treat it as your record, not as a backup you can restore from, and store it where you store other personal documents.

What is in the file

What it holdsWhy Phrazl holds it
Your email address and name, with the password stored only as a hashTo sign you in and keep your trips attached to your account
Your trips: destination, departure date and chosen scenariosTo select the phrase set and calibrate the review schedule to your departure
Your review history per phrase: result, interval and next review timeTo schedule what you practise next and show curriculum coverage
Purchase records: Stripe checkout session and payment intent ids, amount and status per trip packTo unlock what you bought, apply the returning traveller discount and re-lock a pack if Stripe refunds the payment
Support requests you sent from the account screenTo fix purchase problems and refund what did not unlock
Your answer, if you gave one, to the paywall question about what stopped youTo learn why travellers decide not to buy
Usage events and funnel milestones recorded against your accountTo count how many travellers use the product and where they stop before buying

What the export does not cover

Stripe keeps its own payment records as required by law, so card payment data is not inside the Phrazl file and is not Phrazl's to delete. Your bank statement and Stripe's receipt remain the record of the money.

Two other limits are worth knowing before you compare the file against your memory. Usage events are deleted after sixteen weeks, so older ones will not appear. Server logs roll off within thirty days and are not part of the export. A trip set up at /try without an account is held under a random token in a cookie with no name or email attached, so it is not in an account export until you sign up and the trip moves onto your account.

If it did not work, or you want something narrower

You only want one trip gone, not everything

Deleting a single trip and its review history is a separate action on that trip's edit screen. Account deletion, on the account screen, asks you to type your email to confirm and then takes the lot.

The download did not arrive

Check that you are signed in to the right account, since the file is built from the account you are signed in as. If the download still does not produce a file, email support@phrazl.com and say which account and what happened. Every message there lands in the support desk.

You want to understand what you are reading

The review history entries make more sense alongside how the schedule compresses towards your departure, and the trip records make more sense alongside how a trip is set up. Both are covered elsewhere in this help centre.

Questions

What format is the export in?

A JSON file. It is plain text, so a text editor or your browser will open it without any extra software.

Where do I find the download?

On your account screen, the same screen that carries account deletion. You need to be signed in with your email address and password.

Does downloading my data delete anything?

No. The download only produces a copy. Deletion is a separate action on the same screen, and account deletion asks you to type your email to confirm.

Does the file include my purchases?

Yes. Purchase records are part of what is held: the Stripe checkout session and payment intent ids, the amount and the status per trip pack. Stripe keeps its own payment records as required by law, and those stay with Stripe.

Can I export just one trip?

No. The download covers everything held about your account in one file rather than splitting it per trip. You can delete a single trip and its review history from that trip's edit screen.

How long is my data kept if I do not delete the account?

It is kept while your account exists and is removed when the account is deleted. Usage events are deleted after sixteen weeks and server logs roll off within thirty days.

Can I import the file back into Phrazl later?

No. The export is a copy for you to keep. Nothing in the product reads it back in, so treat it as a record rather than a restore point.

What if I deleted my account and now want the file?

Download it before you delete. Account deletion removes the account, trips, review history, purchase records, support requests and paywall answers in one transaction, so there is nothing left to export afterwards.

Set up the trip you have booked

Pick where you are going and when you leave, choose up to three scenarios, and work through the first twenty phrases before you pay anything.
